Rondal “Ron” Gene Allen
Funeral Time: Tuesday, November 21st at 10:30AM Rondal “Ron” Gene Allen, 74, of Lexington, KY, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at University of Kentucky Hospital. Ron was born in 1949 to Jesse Owen and Mary Ernestine Allen and grew up in Vine Grove, KY. “Ronnie” spent most of his childhood outdoors playing baseball and basketball. He was known as the best left-handed pitcher on the baseball diamond. Ron carried his love for the outdoors into adulthood and founded his own civil engineering and land surveying company, Allen Engineering, Inc. in 1981. He took pride in his work and loved to talk about the many projects he completed throughout the state of Kentucky.
He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1971 and a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1974. He was proud to be selected as a Kentucky Colonel in 1990, was a University of Kentucky Fellow, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Serving in the church was an important part of Ron’s life and every Sunday morning you could find him greeting members or leading a Sunday School class. Ron never missed a home UK football game and was a lifelong fan of the Wildcats.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lilli Margaret, his four children, Jeffrey Allen (Emily), Leann Shields (Brandon), Stacy Allen (Lawrence Smith), and Rhonda Allen. He was known as Grandad to his four grandchildren, Julie, Ellison, Lorelei, and Calvin. Ron is also survived by his mother Mary Ernestine Allen and other close relatives, including Melissa Sills and Jennifer Gibson and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Owen.
Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, November 21 at Kerr Brothers – Harrodsburg Road. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday. Burial will be in the Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.
