Mr. Douglas (Doug) Wayne Conrad
Douglas (Doug) Wayne Conrad died on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. He is survived by his wife Sandra (Sandy) Harp of 52 years; his three children, Katie (John) Kirkland, Philip Conrad, and Chace Conrad; his four grandchildren, Katelyn Conrad, Cole Conrad, Lucy Anna Kirkland, and Lane Conrad; and his brother Ronnie Conrad and his sister Sheila Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Margaret Kathryn (Fornash) Conrad and his brother Dale Conrad. Doug worked 31 years for Norfolk Southern Railroad. He began his career at age 19 with Southern Railway as a track maintenance worker. He worked the last ten years of his career as a railroad track safety inspector for the Federal Railroad Administration. He farmed during most of his career. He held private and commercial pilot licenses and flew a Cessna 172 from an airstrip on his farm in Dry Ridge. A small private funeral has been planned for immediate family members. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington is handling the arrangements. Doug will be buried at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens in Nicholasville. In lieu of flowers or material objects, the family requests donations to Bluegrass Care Navigators (https://www.bgcarenav.org/give). Doug’s family is thankful for the wonderful care he received during hospice.
