James Clayton Martin
Funeral Time: Friday, December 10th at 5:00PM
James Clayton Martin, 83, husband of Ada Petot Martin, passed away at his home in Lexington, Kentucky on November 11, 2021, after a brief illness. Jim was born in Huntington, West Virginia on May 31, 1938, to the late Clayton and Ila Mae Rankin Martin. He was the oldest son of five children, and spent most of his childhood in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School and the University of Kentucky, where he studied Agricultural Economics. Jim had a long career as a general contractor in the Lexington area.
Jim is survived by his wife Ada, his children James David (Marilyn) Martin, Hickory NC, Anne Clayton Martin, Nashville TN and Sarah Leslie Martin, Missoula MT; grandchildren Hanna Stewart Martin, Charlotte Rose Martin, Richard Clayton Abernathy and Ava Elaine Erickson. He is also survived by his sister Mary Anne Loy (Barry), Columbia KY and the mother of his granddaughters Lisa Crump (Hanna and Charlotte), Lexington KY. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers William Martin, Thomas Martin and John Martin, and a sister-in-law Mae Goldy Martin.
A celebration of life will be held on December 10, 2021, at Columbia’s Steakhouse on N. Limestone in Lexington at 5:00 p.m.
