Gentry Carnelius LaRue, Sr.
Funeral Time: Saturday, October 23rd at 12:30PM
Gentry Carnelius LaRue, Sr., age 88, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday morning of October 13, 2021. Gentry, or LaRue, as he was affectionately known, was the loving husband of Janice Napier LaRue, proud father of Dr. Gentry LaRue, Jr. (Desiree) and Mr. Gregory LaRue (Sylvia), nurturing grandfather of Mr. Gentry LaRue, III, Mrs. Kristen LaRue Bond (Darryl), Dr. Gillian LaRue, Miss Megan LaRue, and devoted great grandfather of Miss Lena LaRue Vickers. LaRue was born on March 4, 1933 to the late Reverend Henry M. LaRue and Mary Elizabeth LaRue in Smiths Grove, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Henry LaRue and Sandy Earl LaRue. Education, teaching, and service were among LaRue’s passions. He graduated from Kentucky State College majoring in biology, and pledged Omega Psi Phi in 1953 while at Kentucky State. He completed his master’s degree from Western Kentucky University. LaRue served faithfully as a member of First Baptist Church, East Second Street Christian Church, and most recently Imani Baptist Church until his health declined. LaRue was a strong, loved, and cherished pillar of his family, and an active member of his community. He will be profoundly missed. Visitation will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd., Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 10:30-12:30, with a homegoing celebration immediately following. Burial will be at the Lexington Cemetery. Masks are required.
