Charles Leon Doty
Long time Lexington resident Charles Leon Doty, 84, began the next chapter of his life’s journey Saturday, March 6, 2021. A devoted Husband, Dad and Grandfather, Charles was born November 15, 1936 in Longview, TX to the late Bonnie and Wesley Doty. After earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at the College of the Ozarks, he taught advanced mathematics at the college for a short time. Charles then went to work for IBM, embarking on what would become a three-decade long career with that company. Among the many projects he worked on for IBM, the partnership between NASA and IBM on the Saturn V Rocket Program was one that made him most proud. In 1957, Charles married Mary Schuh, with whom he would share the next 63 years. They were married in Clarksville, Arkansas. The couple went on to have three daughters, Tana, Kim, and Holly. Although he traveled extensively for work, Charles took his role as father very seriously. Along with Mary, he raised his daughters to value education and to be strong-minded, independent, and successful individuals who shared his strong work ethic. Between work and family responsibilities, Charles also found time for long distance running, a hobby he enjoyed for over 20 years. A Mayflower Descendent out of Ohio, Charles had strong ties to his family history while using his career to work for the future. Charles is survived by his loving wife Mary, grateful daughters Tana Blair, Kimberly Castro, and Holly Doty, and grandson Nathaniel Charles Doty Castro. He will be missed by many whose lives he touched. Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation-Help Speed a Parkinson’s Cure would be greatly appreciated.
