Kenneth Mize McKinney

Kenneth Mize McKinney, age 91 of Lexington, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 in Owenton, KY. He was born January 15, 1930 in Lexington, a son of the late Joel W. and Anna Lyle Shackelford McKinney. A jack of all trades, Kenneth was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and he was a U.S. Navy Veteran. A true “Showman”, he always told the story that he turned down Adolph Rupp’s offer to play for the Kentucky Wildcats so he could pursue his love of acting and singing. Kenneth was a regular at the Chinoe Pub and the Hardee’s on Winchester Road where he enjoyed singing Karaoke and entertaining everyone. Known as Mr. Wonderful, Kenneth’s love of singing and entertaining others landed him appearances on the “Gong Show”, as well as multiple TV shows and movies. Kenneth was a member of Christ Centered Church. He is survived by: nieces and nephews, Betty (Gary) Dickerson, Karen Cook, Bill McKinney, George McKinney, William McKinney, Donna (Ronnie) Riddle, Joel (Michelle) McKinney, and Jay McKinney; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: three brothers, Wilbur, William, and Melvin; a sister, Lois; two infant sisters; and step-daughter, Annie Saub. Funeral services will be 12:30 pm Friday, February 26, 2021 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Rd. Visitation will be 10:30-12:30 Friday at the funeral home.
