Funeral Time: Saturday, December 8th at 12:00PM
Mae Ida Williamson was born on January 22, 1948, in Terry, Mississippi, and transitioned to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 1, 2018, in Lexington, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents Esther Green and Excell Harvey.
Mae grew up in Terry and accepted Christ at an early age at the Mt. Eva Baptist Church there. She attended the public schools in Hinds County, Mississippi, graduating from Sumner Hill High School. Mae then moved to Lockport, Illinois, where she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and attended Joliet Junior College. She also attended Ella Mae’s Beauty School and became an accomplished cosmetologist. It was also in Lockport that Mae met the love of her life, fellow Mississippian Lionel Williamson. They were married in July of 1968 and celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in July of 2018.
Following their wedding, Mae and Lionel moved back to Mississippi where they lived and worked in the Delta area for several years. When they moved to Missouri where Lionel pursued his graduate degrees, Mae worked as a beautician and an insurance claims specialist. Over the years, as they moved to North Carolina and then to Kentucky, Mae worked in several areas including cosmetology, insurance, as a Sears sales associate, and as a technician at Dr. Bizer’s ValuVision. She also was an entrepreneur, owning and operating Mae’s Beauty Salon in Lexington for many years. She was a longtime member of the cosmetologists’ association. Because of her faithful service, Mae received a certificate of merit from Sears and a certificate of achievement from Dr. Bizer’s.
Mae was a devout Christian throughout her life. She and Lionel joined Wesley United Methodist Church in Lexington, and she faithfully attended and participated in the life of the church as long as her health permitted. She truly loved being a member of the church choir.
Mae is survived by her husband, Dr. Lionel Williamson of the home; a son, Lionel LeMarc Williamson, who works in development at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC; stepdaughter, Dr. Kesher Love (Robert), Jackson, MS; step granddaughter, Atty. Kenosha Whitehead (Johnny), Jackson, MS; brothers, Earnest Robinson, Jr., Lockport, Illinois, and Van Robinson of Germany; one sister, Lucille Nelson (TC), Altus, Oklahoma; special cousins Roberta Mason and Willie and Robert Cooper, and a host of relatives and friends.
